Components of NST

Natural Solutions Therapy offers an eclectic approach to the issues and difficulties of children with learning problems. It offers a multi-modal treatment plan which includes:

  • NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming
  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • The Leaning Breakthrough
  • The Listening Programming
  • Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP stands for ‘Neuro Linguistic Programming’. ‘Neuro’ refers to the mind and how it works, ‘Linguistic’ refers to the language used in the way people express themselves and communicate their experience to others, and ‘Programming’ refers to the effect that language has on the mind and on behaviour.

NLP is based in ‘real life’ behaviour and its main aim is to re-code the mind, helping people to react in a positive way to a situation where they would normally have reacted in a negative way. This treatment can be applied to fears, phobias, anger, personal relationships, sports performance and many more situations that require change.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT is a form of energy psychology. It is based along the same lines as acupuncture or acupressure which have been around for thousands of years in other cultures!

EFT works by neutralizing "disruptions" in your body's energy system or meridians. This stops the chemical chain reaction freeing you from emotional and physical discomfort. As you gently tap or press on a point, neural receptors under the skin convert the pressure to an electrical impulse that is transmitted to the brain. It is the same as using a remote control for the TV or tapping a key on a keyboard to send an electrical signal to the computer. Our thoughts are constantly creating patterns of electrical energy that cause the release of neurotransmitters, hormones and other chemicals in the body that we feel as emotions. When there is a disruption in the body s electrical flow it can crease the fight or flight response. If the disruption continues, it can lead to emotional distress and eventually physical problems. When the disruption is removed, the distress stops.

EFT is used to treat a wide range of problems, including physical pain, stress, anxiety, fears and phobias, trauma, anger, depression, migraines, fibromyalgia, asthma and addictions. EFT is also used to improve personal performance in academics, business and sports by removing anxiety, doubt and negative thoughts. EFT works so rapidly you will usually start to notice a difference in a few minutes in most cases.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

If traumas are not processed in the brain the emotion which usually declines with time stays with us and anything that reminds the subconscious of the trauma will bring back the emotion as if the past trauma is being re-lived today.
EMDR is a comprehensive, psychotherapeutic approach that allows unprocessed information to be quickly processes, thereby reducing the emotional aspect of the memory or the cause of the problem.
During the reprocessing phases the client attends momentarily to past memories, present triggers, or anticipated future experiences while simulaneously focusing on a set of external stimulus.  During that time, clients generally experience the emergence of insight, changes in memories, or new associations.

Learning Breakthrough

The Learning Breakthrough Programme is a pioneering, programme that seeks to address the underlying causes of sensory processing and integration problems.  These often include Dyslexia; Dyspraxia; ADHD, as well as general challenges with reading, writing, co-ordination, concentration and balance.  Research shows that many of these issues have underlying vestibular, cerebellar, visual perceptual and motor causes.

Developed over many years by Dr Frank Belgau, the Learning Breakthrough Programme is a suite of movement ‘exercises’ which can be performed at home on specialized equipment.  These exercises will improve the way the brain processes sensory information.  This improved efficiency allows participants to read, write, speak, hear, remember, and control physical movements and stay focused more effectively.

Once used only by developmental specialists, Learning Breakthrough is now organized into daily activity segments that make it easy to use by any clinician, teacher or parent without special training.  The programme is an updated version of the 1982 original, comes with a DVD that shows every movement and represents an accumulation of the most successful activities identified over the past 30 years.

The Belgau Balance Board is the most important piece in the programme.  With adjustable rockers, the difficulty level can be gradually increased constantly providing the user with just enough balance challenge to train the system effectively whilst performing the many fun visual, motor, and kinesthetic activities.  With as little as 15 minutes per day, this is the ideal way to actively improve efficient processing at its source.

The programme comes complete and ready to use with full instructions and a DVD to follow, along with the games for each session.  Over 12 weeks the programme can be individualized to ensure the correct challenge to the nervous system, brain and balance mechanisms, this in turns helps with:

  • Balance
  • Co-ordination
  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Hand to eye co-ordination
  • Spatial Awareness
  • Sports Skills
  • Information Processing
  • Speech and Language
  • Concentration
  • Listening Skills
  • Motor planning and fluid movement

Listening Programme (TLP)

The Listening Programme's clinically-proven approach gently trains the auditory system to accurately process sound.

When auditory perception is distorted — whether through illness, injury, developmental or other challenges — auditory processing problems can lead to academic, emotional, cognitive and social challenges, including problems with the following:

  • Attention and concentration
  • Listening
  • Speech and language
  • Memory
  • Communication
  • Social skills
  • Reading
  • Sensory integration
  • Self regulation
  • Physical balance and coordination
  • Vocal performance and musical ability

Whether you are interested in improving brain health for longevity, expanding your own abilities or helping someone you care about, TLP can make a significant difference.

How can something that seems so simple — listening to psychoacoustically modified classical music — actually impact a wide range of abilities, such as reading, communication, learning and memory? Numerous studies worldwide, including research at the University of Sheffield, provide empirical evidence that substantiate The Listening Program's efficacy. And while that affirms The Listening Program's credibility, for many the question remains, how does The Listening Program work?

TLPs psychoacoustically modified music and patent-pending production techniques are designed to stimulate, or "exercise" the different functions of the auditory processing system. This enables the brain to better receive, process, store and use the valuable information provided through the varied soundscapes in our lives such as music, language and the environment in which we live.

TLP is designed to address these zones, systematically providing auditory stimulation that, when customized for listeners by TLP Providers, can help improve their ability to function in a number of ways:

  • Sensory Integration — Targets the first zone (lower frequencies) to stimulate functions such as balance, coordination, motor skills and more.
  • Full Spectrum — Provides a kind of overall "organizing" experience.
  • Speech & Language — Emphasizes the mid to higher frequencies to stimulate the brain's abilities for memory, attention, vocal control and more.
  • High Spectrum — Focuses on the higher frequencies that impact creativity, intuition, energy and more.
  • The Listening Program's patent-pending ABC Modular Design™ takes the program a step further, enabling listeners to effectively exercise the auditory processing system, providing "warm-up," "workout" and "cool-down" phases.
  • UK orders of TLP are available from Life Solutions Consultancy Limited who are Certified Providers of The Listening Programme

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

HCBT is based on the principle that it is not the situation that is the problem it is the way you think about it. Have you ever wondered if your thoughts are really helping you? Or does the endless chatter in your head manufacture its own problems and sabotage what could be a happier easier life?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an effective way to ‘flip the switch’ on your thinking by tackling your thinking errors.

What is interesting about negative automatic thoughts is that people tend to accept them at face value instead of looking for alternative explanations or questioning the core beliefs that underlie them. That’s what HCBT helps you to do, and if you alter your negative automatic thoughts a significant positive change in feelings and behaviours will likely follow.

It is evidence based that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works 70% more effective in conjunction with Hypnotherapy (HCBT).
